Fifteenth studio album from England's The Orb. No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds sees Alex Paterson take the leap from Kompakt over to Cooking Vinyl in order to make a highly collaborative effort. Longtime member Thomas Fehlmann only pops up on a handful of tracks, leaving Paterson to work with a variety of musicians and producers. This includes some of the usual conspirators, like Killing Joke bassist Martin "Youth" Glover and ambient musician Roger Eno, but brings in a much more varied cast than previous efforts. The result is an album that is quite daring; feeling very much like an Orb album in some place and altogether alien in others. The are moments of ambient dub along with more hip hop oriented beats. Then you get the epic "Soul Planet" which looks back to The Orb's earlier material. While not quite as cohesive as previous Paterson / Fehlmann efforts like COW / Chill Out, World! and Moonbuilding 2703 AD, No Sounds Are Out Of Bounds delivers a varied and interesting listen. Twelve tracks in all. Released by Cooking Vinyl on indie exclusive blue double vinyl with a digital download.
