Love when Theo and Marcellus get together, you’re never gonna get anything remotely close to the same track twice. This one’s always been pretty hard to find. Originally released in 2002 on Track Mode, a killer, dare-we-say-slept-on house label that (sadly) has never had the same clout and fervor with Zee Germanz as Sound Signature, who released the first one. “Evidence Of The 5th Green Foot” holds down the A-side, a hard-swinging slab of beatdown house, colored in with jazzy percolating sub bass and a chopped-up Rhodes, deep-fried to a crisp in Theo’s SP-12. “Equality Of Patience” recalls the psychedelic tribal vibes previously explored on Volume 1’s “African Roots.” Stripped down and unhurried but banging, in a way I can only imagine would be perfect at some kind of funky Detroit barbecue. Effervescent stepper “Questions Comments” wraps up the session with a sentimental piano loop underpinning the classic Detroit groove. Theo saves the day with this new 2019 pressing on Sound Signature. Three for three, or six for six if you count volume 1 (also repressed, both also available as a pack). Recommended!
