Third studio album from former Chillwave pioneer Toro Y Moi. Growing by leaps and bounds as a producer, songwriter from album to album seems to come natural to young Chaz. Basically creating a genre with his first album, Causers of This, then orchestrating a full band in the follow up, Underneath The Pine, and now blending many worlds into his latest. Anything In Return pulls from his side project Les Sins electronic / house side of things with hints of his former wonky self. Warm synths, shuffling beats, and his still sweet voice serenading us. Stand out tracks include "Rose Quartz" with its midtempo groove that recalls a Nu Disco version of Jamie XX production. "High Living" drawing in the listener to a cruise up the PCH with the windows down and the ocean to your left. The single "So Many Details" sounds like it was made for a skate video. The double LP comes packaged in a lavish matte finished gatefold with a die cut front sleeve allowing you to rotate artwork from the Bundick-designed inner sleeves. Recommended.
