Simulcast is an instrumental reworking of Tycho’s Grammy Nominated (!) 2019 album Weather. But the San Francisco producer / photographer / designer wasn’t content with just erasing the vocal stems - Each of the eight tracks from Weather are stripped down to their essence and re-recorded, creating an entirely new, nearly ambient soundscape from these beloved tracks. In his words — “Simulcast expands on the concepts laid out in Weather but shifts into the abstract with instrumental soundscapes in place of lyrics, opening up a visual space and translating the message into a new language.” “Alright” is jittery, reverberating guitar and all-encompassing bass tones, “Outer Sunset” is looped breakbeats and moody guitar licks that brings to mind classic IDM such as Boards of Canada. “Cypress” is a more lo-fi sounding track, a thoughtful showcase of his love for vintage Japanese analog gear.
