Lab Overview

Lone studio album from Cardiff's Young Marble Giants. Colossal Youth was originally released in 1980, and featured a sparse and minimal sound that set the band apart from their peers. Stuart Moxham's nervous and jittery guitar, Philip Moxham's sparse bass parts, and the intermittent clicks and pops from a drum machine; nothing takes up more space than it has to. And above it all sits the calm and cool vocals of singer Alison Statton. It's hard to imagine Olympia's innovative K Records existing with out the influence of Young Marble Giants. Despite only releasing this album, a handful of singles and one Peel Session, the band made a lasting impact on indie music. Deluxe version pressed on indie exclusive clear vinyl with extra LP full of bonus tracks, rarities, extensive liner notes and DVD.

  • clear colored double vinyl pressing
  • indie exclusive deluxe edition
  • includes rare demos + EP tracks on LP2
  • foldout insert contains extensive liner notes
  • DVD includes live footage of the band's performance at Hurrah in NYC
  • digital download included
