He’ll try anything once! On his debut for Warp, Turin-via-Tennessee shapeshifter Sean Bowie aka Yves Tumor leaves behind the dusty soul loops that made Serpent Music so entrancing, as well as the syrupy-synth romanticism of “Limerance” that made true believers out of us here at Lab HQ. Whether its the Public Enemy-by-way-of-Blur police indemnification of “Noid,” wailing shoegaze rollercoaster “Let The Lioness In You Flow Freely,” Dev Hynes clashing Throbbing Gristle stylings of “Economy Of Freedom,” end of world vibes of “Hope In Suffering” (feat. Danish noise heroine Puce Mary) or soul-baring centerpiece “Lifetime,” Yves Tumor remains wonderfully hard to pin down. But we get to catch a glimpse into his heart and soul via carefully crafted pop lullabies like “Licking An Orchid,” “Recognizing The Enemy” and the aforementioned “Lifetime.” Black double vinyl pressing housed in gatefold jacket with download card; also features turns from James Ferraro, Croatian Amor, James K, Oxhy & more.
