  • Maybe you know about Explosions In The Sky from Friday Night Lights. Their brand of tension and release filled post rock was the soundtrack for the movie. An abridged version of the album's closer, "Your Hand In Mine," was even used in it. So it's no wonder that The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is as popular as it is. Well that, and the fact that it contains some of the best instrumental post rock to come out in the 21st century. This is not heavy music, not even close to as heavy as the band's previous albums. However, their music evokes hope and optimism through an ever cascading wall of melodies that seem to endlessly build on top of each other. The two guitarists weave their lines together, effortlessly playing off one another while the rhythm section holds the ship together. There's nothing like anthemic instrumental post rock when it's done right. Double LP pressing with etching on the fourth side.

    • 20th anniversary edition, first time on colored vinyl
    • opaque red colored double vinyl pressing
    • remastered audio
    • housed in deluxe triple panel gatefold jacket w/ outer slipcase
    • digital download included
    • original release year: 2003
    • music label: Temporary Residence Ltd. 2023
